This session was a powerful display of commitment, passion, and determination. Despite it being half-term, our dedicated Elevate participants chose to show up, proving just how much this programme means to them. Even when given the option to move the session, they were eager to attend - a true testament to their drive!
Led by the incredible Emma Nelson, the day was filled with laughter, learning, and hands-on activities that brought together everything participants have developed over the past five months - teamwork, problem-solving, communication, active listening, debating, presenting, and giving feedback.
Emma Nelson also shared her inspiring journey from South Africa to Barclays, highlighting the limited opportunities she faced growing up. Her resilience and determination to achieve more shaped a powerful and reflective career story, leaving a lasting impact on the group.
Innovation & Creativity in Action
Participants demonstrated their entrepreneurial mindset through a creative design challenge, developing concepts for sustainable trainers and water bottles. Their ability to think critically and innovatively was truly inspiring.
The Spaghetti Tower Challenge provided a valuable lesson:
Without a strong foundation, nothing is stable. Through collaboration, diverse thinking, and effective communication, teams built impressive structures, reinforcing the importance of these skills in both leadership and problem-solving.
Career Insights & Future Pathways
Our external speaker, Waseem Razzaq from NatWest Group, delivered an engaging session on his career journey and the career programmes available for school leavers at NatWest. His insights provided real, visible opportunities for participants interested in finance and apprenticeship pathways.
