Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are not lacking talent or ambition. Too often, they face barriers that can limit access to professional networks, career experiences and the people who can help them understand what their future could look like.

More than an employability programme

Elevate is designed to help bridge the gap between education and employment for young people aged 16–18, equipping them with the confidence, knowledge and workplace skills they need to thrive. But Elevate is about more than preparing a young person for their first job. It is about helping them develop the foundations for a future of learning, growth and opportunity. The programme is built around three connected areas:

Career Preparation – helping young people explore career pathways, understand workplace expectations and develop practical employability skills.

Personal Growth – building confidence, resilience, communication and leadership through structured learning and mentoring.

Workplace Integration – connecting young people with employers, professionals and real-world experiences that bring careers to life.

Together, these experiences help participants develop more than workplace knowledge. They build the confidence to ask questions, the resilience to overcome challenges and the professional behaviours that employers value.

Learning beyond the classroom

The transition from education into employment is about more than academic achievement.

Young people also need opportunities to understand the world of work, meet professionals and experience environments that may previously have felt unfamiliar or out of reach.

Through employer-led workshops, career insight sessions, guest speakers and mentoring, Elevate gives participants access to people and experiences that can broaden their understanding of different industries and career pathways.

For some young people, meeting a professional who shares their experience can be the moment they begin to see themselves in a career they had never considered before.

These encounters can challenge perceptions, broaden aspirations and turn an abstract idea of “the workplace” into something tangible and achievable.

Elevate has been strengthened through collaboration with organisations that share our belief that opportunity should not be determined by background. Our partnership with Barclays UK has enabled hundreds of young people to participate in employer-led workshops, career development activities and workplace learning experiences.

More recently, our successful pilot collaboration with Multiverse introduced new learning pathways and expanded the opportunities available to participants. These partnerships demonstrate what can happen when businesses, education and the voluntary sector work together with a shared purpose. For young people, it can mean access to experiences and networks that may otherwise remain out of reach. For businesses and funders, it provides an opportunity to contribute to meaningful, long-term change while helping shape the talent and communities of tomorrow.
