Session 4 of the Elevate Programme in Manchester was a day of self-discovery, skill-building, and setting meaningful goals. Participants took time to reflect on their strengths, explore transferable skills, and map out their ambitions using the SMART goal framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound).
Shaping Futures Through SMART Goals
The session was led by Angela Caroo MBE, who shared how setting SMART goals has been instrumental in her career and personal growth. Her insights provided participants with practical strategies to turn their ambitions into achievable steps.
One of the most powerful moments of the day was the vision board activity, where participants creatively expressed their goals and values. Seeing their aspirations come to life, whether focused on entrepreneurship, music, or giving back to their communities - was truly inspiring.

Kelly Stewart (Barclaycard) delivered a compelling talk on resilience and determination, sharing her experience of being the first in her family to attend university and how she built a career in Risk Management. Her journey highlighted the power of perseverance and self-belief.
Samia Durrani (Accenture) provided an engaging overview of cybersecurity, offering insights into her career path and the growing demand for cybersecurity roles. Her session opened participants’ eyes to the exciting opportunities in tech and digital security.
Vision Boards and Personal Aspirations
Throughout the session, participants mapped out their dreams, values, and career ambitions on vision boards. Words like loyalty, fairness, and respect stood out as guiding principles for their futures. The depth of thought and effort they put into their goals demonstrated a strong sense of purpose and direction.

A highlight of the day was when two participants bravely shared their singing talents, adding an uplifting and memorable moment to the session. This spontaneous showcase of confidence and self-expression embodied the very spirit of Elevate, building courage, self-belief, and a supportive community.
