This Privacy Notice outlines how Start Young UK ("we," "our," "us" “the Charity”) collects, uses, and shares personal data specifically in connection with the Elevate Programme. It supplements our main Privacy Policy: https://www.startyounguk.com/privacy

1. What Information We Collect and Why

We collect the following types of personal data from students and, where applicable, their parents or carers, for the purposes of managing the Elevate Programme. This includes assessing eligibility for participation (such as age or school year), delivering and administering the programme, and ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing (including allergy awareness and emergency contact readiness). We also use personal data to collect feedback and to follow up after participation for evaluation purposes. Where appropriate, we may communicate programme-related opportunities, events, or placements from Start Young UK or our corporate partners. Additionally, with consent, we may use identifiable photographs or video recordings for promotional use, and we may provide anonymised or aggregated data for reporting purposes to our partners.

  • · Parent/carer name and contact details

  • · Medical conditions, allergies, or special requirements (where applicable)

  • · Behavioural records (where relevant)

  • · Session updates and communication preferences

  • · Media consent status (e.g. for photography/filming)

  • · Feedback or testimonials

  • · Identifiable photographs and video recordings (used where consent has been provided)

Equality & Diversity Monitoring (Optional and Voluntary): We may also collect the following special category data for equality, diversity, and inclusion monitoring purposes. This is entirely optional:

  • · Religion or belief

  • · Disability or health condition

  • · Gender identity

  • · Sexual orientation

  • · Caring responsibilities

  • · Preferred working pattern

This information will only be used in aggregated or anonymised format for internal analysis, reporting to corporate partners, and to assess our progress on equality, diversity, and inclusion goals.

2. Lawful Bases for Processing

We rely on the following lawful bases to collect and use personal data for the Elevate Programme:

Participation in the programme is subject to parent/carer consent. However, most personal data we process to deliver and manage the programme is processed under our legitimate interests.

  • · Equality and diversity monitoring (optional):

We process special category data (e.g., ethnicity, health, religion) only with consent, for monitoring equality of opportunity and treatment.

  • · Medical or health-related data (e.g., allergies, special requirements):

This data is collected only where necessary and with explicit consent, to help ensure safety, inclusion, and reasonable adjustments.

  • · Legal and safeguarding compliance:

In some cases, we are legally required to process personal information for safeguarding or reporting purposes.

  • · Photographs and video recordings:

We will only use identifiable photos or recordings for promotional or reporting purposes where you have given your consent in the relevant media consent form. You can withdraw consent by contacting us at elevate@startyounguk.com This will apply to future use only and does not affect materials already produced or published.

3. Who We May Share Your Information With

We may share your personal data, where necessary, with the following parties to support the purposes set out in this notice:

  • · Corporate partners (e.g. Barclays, Multiverse) – to deliver Elevate Programme sessions, placements, and follow-up opportunities

  • · Programme delivery partners and volunteers – where their involvement is essential to running sessions or providing support

  • · Schools and safeguarding leads – to support student wellbeing or address safeguarding concerns

  • · Venues and caterers – for safety and inclusion, particularly in relation to allergy or accessibility needs

  • · Our media consultants and related marketing suppliers

  • · Emergency services or regulatory authorities – where legally required or necessary in an emergency

  • · Suppliers and service providers – who help us operate the Elevate Programme and charity functions

  • · Professional advisors where advice is required

  • · Regulatory authorities and statutory bodies – where required by law

 

We do not transfer your personal data outside the UK.

4. How We Keep Your Data Secure

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used, accessed in an unauthorised way, altered, or disclosed.

5. How Long We Keep Your Data

We will keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. In some circumstances, we will anonymise your personal data (so it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely.

You have the right to ask us:

· To object to processing of your personal data where it is in our legitimate interests.

· To limit how we can use your personal data in certain circumstances.

· To delete your personal data in certain circumstances. Once you let us know, we will stop using your personal data in future materials. However, some people may still be able to see, for example, images from earlier uses/publications already in circulation and publicly available (on which we have no control).
